Finite element framework for modeling conducto-radiative transfers within heterogeneous media at both discrete and continuous scales

چکیده

The paper compares three distinct conducto-radiative models that can be used for modeling heat transfer at high temperature in view of being integrated within a topology optimization process. Finite elements are extensively used. Non-linearities handled using fixed-point method coupled with Newton–Raphson linearization method. A three-dimensional square lattice is sandwiched between hot and cold plate. discrete mesoscopic scale the reference model. At all conduction-to-radiation regimes, even when radiation predominates, it appears continuous-scale approach, which has been set-up thanks to proper homogenization laws, gives satisfactory results, not case Rosseland approximation homogenized model good candidate future problems.

Finite - element modelling of elastic wave propagation and scattering within heterogeneous media

The scattering treated here arises when elastic waves propagate within a heterogeneous medium defined by random spatial fluctuation of its elastic properties. Whereas classical analytical studies are based on lower-order scattering assumptions, numerical methods conversely present no such limitations by inherently incorporating multiple scattering. Until now, studies have typically been limited...

A Novel Combinatorial Approach to Discrete Fracture Network Modeling in Heterogeneous Media

Fractured reservoirs contain about 85 and 90 percent of oil and gas resources respectively in Iran. A comprehensive study and investigation of fractures as the main factor affecting fluid flow or perhaps barrier seems necessary for reservoir development studies. High degrees of heterogeneity and sparseness of data have incapacitated conventional deterministic methods in fracture network modelin...

Hybrid Finite Volume / Finite Element Method for Radiative Heat Transfer in Graded Index Media

The rays propagate along curved path determined by the Fermat principle in the graded index medium. The radiative transfer equation in graded index medium (GRTE) contains two specific redistribution terms (with partial derivatives to the angular coordinates) accounting for the effect of the curved ray path. In this paper, the hybrid finite volume with finite element method (hybrid FVM/FEM) (P.J...

Numerical Modeling of Rock Mechanics Tests in Layered Media Using a Finite / Discrete Element Approach

A numerical simulation based on a finite/discrete element approach is used to study the deformation and failure process of standard rock mechanics tests on Opalinus clay samples, when subjected to static loading conditions. The layered structure of the Opalinus clay is considered and the resultant anisotropic behaviour is modelled. Rock heterogeneity is also taken into account, with the main pu...

Finite-element analysis of lasing modes within photonic random media

We investigated several types of random lasing modes against frequency and the excitation of active medium. Random lasing occurring from multiple light scatterings and the interference effect of the scattered light has various complex lasing states in disordered structures, in which light waves are localized in various forms. Modes of random lasing are generally classified into localized, exten...
